With a pioneering spirit, more than three decades of experience and a uniquely conscientious approach to wealth management, Scott leads CD Wealth Management with the belief that the interests of his clients always come first.
In addition to being the company’s Founder and Executive Chairman, Scott specializes in working with high net-worth individuals to manage their wealth and estates, and he helps businesses maximize their wealth transitions and protect key executives.
Primarily, though, excellent service is his calling card.
His professional success was rooted in his early years, when a strong work ethic and entrepreneurial drive took shape. From bagging groceries and delivering pizzas to waiting tables and driving beer trucks, these weren’t just jobs — they were lessons in discipline, resilience and the power of building lasting business relationships.
On campus at the University of Texas, he grew into leadership roles with numerous student groups, including Zeta Beta Tau fraternity and the Silver Spurs, an honorary service organization that takes care of UT’s longhorn mascot, Bevo. In his first year with the Silver Spurs, Scott led his fellow new members in fund-raising work, generating $20,000 for the Boys Club of Austin.
“The classes I took in economics taught me to think at the macro level, which I still do today. They taught me to be a big-picture thinker. I’m proud to be an economics major because it matched my brain and matched my passion. That degree helped me become a business owner.”
After a post-graduation backpacking trip in Europe, Scott paused his plans to enter law school, returning home to start work in the financial industry. Over the next two decades, Scott broadened his expertise in wealth management, expanded his clientele and developed the disciplined approach that defines him today.
On June 30, 2014, Scott went out on his own, opening the doors at CD Wealth Management. Scott’s vision for the company was clear: He wanted CD Wealth to focus entirely on wealth management — and on building a new standard for client service, one that is recognized nationally among its peers.
Known throughout the industry as a confident and trusted advisor who loves working and helping others, Scott is involved with his alma mater by serving on the UT Economics Advisory Committee, the UT Development Board, the Liberal Arts Advisory Council, and the Longhorn Foundation Advisory Council. In addition, he mentors Silver Spurs members and alumni and advises Zeta Beta Tau. He also serves on the Chancellor’s Parent Leadership Council at the University of Denver.
In March 2026, the University of Texas’ College of Liberal Arts named him as a recipient of its highest honor, the Pro Bene Meritis Award, which recognizes alumni whose service and leadership have meaningfully advanced the mission of the college and its students.
“There are many people who can give resources,” he said at the time. “For me, the real difference comes from giving time — mentoring students, being in the classroom, and helping them navigate the transition from college to the real world.”
In May 2026, he delivered the commencement address for UT’s Department of Economics.
A frequent keynote speaker at industry events and a highly sought advisor for other wealth managers, Scott is a graduate of the prestigious Stagen Leadership Academy’s Integral Leadership Program — a 52-week deep dive into conscious leadership, strategy, and personal transformation.
Scott is No. 5 among high-net-worth advisors in the Dallas-Fort Worth area in the Forbes Best-in-State Wealth Advisor list for 2026, his sixth consecutive ranking. He also was named to the Barron’s Top 1,500 Financial Advisors list for 2026 for the fifth consecutive year, and he has been included in AdvisorHub magazine’s list of Advisors to Watch every year since 2022.
Scott has been an active leader and member of numerous civic and community boards, as well as a dedicated volunteer. He and his wife Barbi are generous with their time and resources, and their belief in community service is reflected in the corporate belief system at CD Wealth. Scott has served as co-chair of the Aaron Family JCC Golf Tournament for 19 years, raising funds for life-changing programs for children and seniors.
Scott is devoted to his family and enjoys making memories and spending quality time with Barbi and their three daughters, Kacey, Ella and Olivia. He also is an avid golfer and an unapologetic supporter of the Longhorns, no matter the sport.
“It’s important to me to set the tone for the culture of our business and our industry, with a drive to always put the client first. Our greatest reward comes from seeing our clients achieve their dreams in life.”
